Gay Man's healthy guide
As a gay guy approaching mid thirty I realise that its not just about looking good on the outside but maintaining a long term healthy inside both mentally & physically.
Life Is about maintaining balance & to my mind this is the key to a healthy, happy life. Have a drink a day but don’t get hammered after work every night, enjoy a busy sex life but as a gay man protect yourself, Work hard but control stress levels with exercise & plenty of play.
Getting the balance right isn’t easy but you instinctively know when the scales are tipping in the wrong direction & maybe its time to introduce some healthy strategies into your life.
Build more man muscle
I’m not suggesting you pump yourself up to ‘ripped’ proportions but after the age of 35 the male metabolism slows down. To prevent the middle age mans paunch setting in increase lean muscle tissue which in turn increases metabolism & evens out this decline. Lets face it there are plenty of gay & gay friendly gyms to hang out at & after the hard work sit back & observe the gym bunnies, circuit lads & muscle men
Beauty Sleep Boys!
We know the heady continual round of social events & party hard does not always have us heading up the stairs at reasonable times but sleep is an essential for men especially after the age of 35.
Eight hours a night is the ideal cycle of sleep which allows body tissue to repair & helps to retain your youthful glow. No we do not advocate a week’s partying & intensive botox that’s cheating!
Be Gay & Green
Men are only eating two of their five of day according to the British Dietetic Association. Think rainbow & eat a variety of colours for maximum health benefits. If you can’t get to the fresh produce section enough tinned & frozen are fine.
Cycle to Work
Incorporate a cycle into your commute & your daily work out has become achievable by 9am. A bonus is a tight arse, something every gay guy strives for & arriving into work in tight shorts with a healthy glow might attract some unexpected after work workouts.
Take a break
Under EU Directives you are entitled to a lunch break of at least 30 minutes, take it! If you are not fussed about food stretch your legs & get some fresh air. Men can do relaxing exercises as well as women & it will reduce stress levels & well being.
Have regular sex
If you are a gay guy who has sex at least twice a week you are halving your risk of a heart attack compared to a man who has sex only once a month. Lets face it grabbing yourself a cock toy & enjoying yourself will also give you the same stress reducing benefits.
Adopt a sensible approach to alcohol
Over the age of 40 one unit of alcohol per day reduces the risk of heart disease. There is no concrete evidence that it has to be red wine so indulge in your favourite tipple of choice.
Practice safe Gay sex
We can’t ignore the rising rate of STD’s & HIV. Gay sexual health messages are everywhere & anywhere so ignorance is no excuse. Keep a supply of condoms on your person, in the car & bedroom so that the ‘heat of the moment’ cannot be blamed for an unprotected gay sexual encounter.
Stub it out
Gay men have showed a higher than average proportion of smokers (36%) to the overall statistics of 25% for the population. Whether a more integral part of gay culture or a prop for stress relief there is no doubt that we have to stub them out No more nasty smell, whiter teeth, the recent smoking ban in your gay bar or pub, rising cost & obvious health risks all point to one thing; giving them up.
Check it out
Check your balls for any lumps or bumps regularly, any small lump is usually nothing serious but you should gently roll your testicles between your thumb & finger to check for anything unusual. If you are a gay man who is sexually active go for regular check ups at your local clinic. Don’t bury your head in the sand & adopt a ‘it will never happen to me’ attitude.
